Pros and Cons of Open box refurbished Computers and electronics

My current laptop that I am using to write this post is an open box or refurbished Macbook that i bought at web site in 2012.

Pros and Cons of Open Box refurbished computers and electronics
Pros and Cons of Open Box refurbished computers and electronics

I work as an IT contractor and I make more than 100.000$ per year in It contracting revenue using exclusively this laptop for remote work, programming,System Administration, blogging, emailing, working, etc..
This is the best laptop that I ever had. Not a single issue since I bought it.
I therefore decided to help the consumer by sharing my experience.
What are the Pros and Cons of Open box refurbished Computers and electronics in general (laptop, PC, Mac, Camera, Xbox, etc.)?

First let’s explain what an open box refurbished computer or electronic means:
Typically, open-box items are goods returned by customers, inspected by the retailer, found to be in working order, and re-sold at a discount, rather than returned to the manufacturer.
Refurbished items usually mean they were returned for a defect and were fixed either by the original retailer or the factory.

Most customers are well intentioned people and usually return item when they are defective, but we all know that are some of fellow customers that can be jerk sometimes and will return equipment to the store for meaningless things.

Those defects or what the customers thought it is a defect are sometimes quickly resolved by the retailer or manufacturer and re-sold at discount price as open box or refurbished item.

Here are the pros of open box or refurbished items:

  • Price, price, price, significant discount: Almost brand new high quality product at a big discounted price.
I saved about $200 on this laptop above and it is still working fine and still looks new after 4 good years of almost daily use.
  • At stores like Best buy, every computer or tablet returned is wiped to factory settings entirely. All returned items are screened, some are sent back to manufacturers, the other go through Geek squad team to be inspected and reset.
  • Most of the time, you also get full warranty on the open box product.
  • The retailer or manufacturer test the product thoroughly to make sure that whatever the returnee didn’t like is the only issue.
  • The Operating system is freshly installed. The hard drives are wiped clean. The keyboard and touch-pad are tested thoroughly.
  • Sometimes you end up with the latest technology for the price of an old one.

I am tempted to say that there are no cons at all because you can always return it but there are indeed some potential inconvenients for buying open box or refurbished computers/electronics:

  • Less than 10% of the time, the open box products can have some software glitch that the retailer/manufacturer couldn’t find.
  • Limited warranty usually comes with open box products.
  • If the refurbished is old, there you are really getting an old laptop. Always try to get new refurbished laptop that are the same version or closer to the latest version available.
  • Top quality brand like refurbished Apple macbook are hard to find because they are usually sold out to people like me very quickly. So if you want to wait, you might wait for a long time.

How to get into Football or soccer?

Let’s explore How to get into Football or soccer?

Football or soccer is the most popular sport in the world.

How to get into Football or soccer
How to get into Football or soccer

To get into football or soccer, start at an early age to get the fundamentals. You can register your son or daughter as soon as they are 4 years old in Minor Soccer Associations in your city. I currently coach my own son’s team at SWU Soccer club in Calgary and it is a delight.
At that age, all they do is kick and run around with the ball.
If you are not lucky enough to have started at an early age, you can still catch up.
Whatever your age, ability, fitness level or size, there is a type of football suitable for you.
The only equipment that you need is a football or a soccer ball.
Join a pick up team and play with friends on a weekly basis. You can play 5 a side or 11 a side.
Playing pick up games increases your fitness and improves your game. It is also a good way to see your mates.

If you want to take it to another level, there are amateur leagues in almost every city in the world. You can join a team in those league and play competitive games and test yourself against higher caliber players. You can use my Djamga App for iOs & Android to find Team Leagues in your city.
Read more here.
Here are the different types of football games:

  1. Kickabout or street soccer
Friends and strangers meet and play on any surface they can find (street, park, backyard, basketball court, etc). It is called pelada in Brazil, Damba in Cameroon, kickabout in England, Footy or Le foot in France, etc. There is no referee, the only rule is no handball, goals are often made with bags. It is a lot of fun and the best way to improvise and develop instinctive football skills.
  2. 5, 6 or 7 a side (indoor and outdoor soccer)
Very popular on smaller outdoor fields and indoor soccer games.
ShowUpAndPlaySoccer organize indoor and outdoor pick up games in Alberta.
  3. 11-a-side
Games are played on large outdoor or indoor fields. It usually involves 2 teams playing against each other.

  4. Junior football
Minor league games from U4 to U16.
  5. Futsal
“Futsal is the perfect transitional game between traditional five-a-side and 11-a-side. It differs significantly from the five-a-side games, with heavier balls, a five-foul limit, time-outs per half and the fact matches are played within confines of lines. Quick decision making is key, and with short bursts of high speed movement, the health benefits are fantastic. Even stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Xavi and Fabregas have used Futsal as a way to keep in shape”
  6. Women’s football or Women’s soccer
Women’s Football or soccer is very popular in US and Canada. It is exactly the same game played by men with same rules and it is fun to watch. “With 1.4 million women and girls playing football, there’s no doubt that it’s the nation’s most popular female team participation sport.”

  7. Co-Ed Soccer
Men and women mix together to play. Co-Ed Leagues are recreational and usually requires a minimum number of women per team. It allows couples to play together in the same team.
  8. Walking football
“Walking Football a slow-paced version of the beautiful game aimed at the over 50s. Walking Football is designed to help people keep an active lifestyle despite their age, as well as getting those back playing football who had to stop due to injuries. The game is gaining momentum but is still not quite mainstream.”
  9. Disability football
“Disability football is well served across Britain, with a host of different opportunities for different groups of people.”
  10. Freestyle football
“Anyone can get into freestyle football – all you need is a ball! It is the art and sport of juggling a football using all parts of the body to entertain audiences and outperform opponents in competitions.”
  11. Bubble soccer
Bubble Soccer, Bubble Ball Soccer, Bumper Ball or whatever you want to call it. The game is simple, the rules are simple and excitement is full. The rules not very different from soccer game. Using an inflatable zorb like bubble, you can smash into other players and find yourself literally rolling away with the ball wrapped around you, bouncing around, laughing and making others laugh.

correct way of slide tackling in Football

What is the correct way of slide tackling in football (soccer) without getting a foul? What is the correct way of slide tackling in football (soccer) without getting a foul?

  1. Timing is extremely important. Process your chances to get the ball quickly and make sure that you get to the ball first.
  2. Slide laterally, almost never straight
  3. Make sure that you touch the ball first, if not prepare yourself to get red carded
  4. Don’t launch both feet at the same time and in parallel
  5. Your wrong foot must go first and serves as support while your strong foot must be ready to direct or shield the ball for you.
  6. Don’t be too aggressive, a smooth slide tackle well executed is easy on the eye and the referee can see it and feel it when it is done right.
  7. Avoid the “scissor” effect on your opponent, it looks very bad and the referee will likely book or eject you.
  8. Protect your knee at all cost
  9. If you are already on a yellow card, it is better to avoid slide tackling unless you are trying to avoid a clear chance to a goal against your team.
  10. Slide tackles are usually instinctive and experienced players just do it on the go. Practice it in scrimmage games and see how well it flows before ever trying it in a real game.

Even if you follow all the advices above, you are still running the risk to be ejected if you don’t win the ball. So slide as a last resort only.
